Even though there are many adoptable animals in the United States, there is an exceptionally high need for animals to be adopted from Mexico as there are not nearly enough capable homes willing to adopt and care for dogs and cats as there are in the US and Canada. They simply do not have the same resources that are needed.

The experience was wonderful! I adopted two cats, Argos and his mother, Kuka. They were so loved and well taken care of, and they both have amazing personalities. All communication for transportation was timely and accurate. Phaedra and everyone involved with the foundation is wonderful!

We were only going to adopt Simon initially. He became friends with Beans while he healed from a surgery before coming to us. Phaedra advocated for Beans to come too and while I initially said 3 cats in the house was too many, we caved and adopted Beans too. I can’t imagine life without our little surprise add-on.

Phaedra has also been very helpful with questions I’ve had about cat behavior and advice over the last +/- 8 months. She truly does care as much as she says she does.

The adoption coordinators are so helpful and flexible with timing. They constantly keep in contact and provide updates on the animal, flights, and any other needed information. They keep checking in afterwards too!

The cats and the foundation are amazing and to be a part of the amazing work they do for these cats is something I wanted to be a part of. Beautiful Balam was why I started following the foundation and got to follow this incredible team saving cats from their terrible life on the streets led by an amazing woman who started it all. Phaedra and her volunteers are nothing short of angels for these cats. Haleigh was delightful to work with in getting our Jezebel to us safety and she kept us informed every step of the way until we picked Jez up in Boston. Following the Balam Foundation’s work over the last several years has shown me the sad conditions of stray cats and kittens in Mexico. Rescue and adoption is the best and kindest way of lessening animal suffering.

Everyone involved was very kind and our little guy Mushu is the sweetest. The Balam Foundation raises wonderful, loved kittens!
