In Mexico, feral cat colonies abound. We have a dedicated team of passionate trappers, who understand the importance of the TNR model. Sterilized feral cat colonies provide us with free and effective rodent control. TNR keeps the colony together, but controls overpopulation of feral cats.
Youth Conservation Education
Animal overpopulation is the very source of the suffering we aim to stop. Every week, our team of dedicated veterinarians heads out to one of the many small impoverished communities surrounding San Miguel de Allende. We sterilize both dogs and cats, helping both the animals and communities themselves.
Needs-Based Financial Assistance For Veterinary Care
Financial support for animal-centric organizations is nearly non-existent in Mexico due to widespread poverty. In turn, the lives of animals, both domestic and wild, are rarely prioritized to receive attention and assistance. The Balam Foundation lends our support to ensure the safety and well-being of the 100+ cats in care at our local feline sanctuary, Santuario Felino Rey Ashoka.
We believe firmly in the power of education. We believe children are the seeds of tomorrow. We are passionate about protecting our planet.
All these beliefs conspired together to create our Biodiversity Education Program in the Yucatan, Mexico. Our teachers meet children twice a month, to teach conservation through art, slide-shows and nature walks. Children learn the importance of conserving the environment, the Jaguar and other iconic native species.
We strive to keep cherished pets healthy and in homes where they are loved, even when catastrophic veterinary bills makes it seem impossible.
